Moving Daze (pardon the pun, I apologize :) )

Whoa.

The past few weeks have been exhausting but educational. Here are some of the things I've learned:

  • For the most part, there is a whole lot of nothing between Dallas and Los Angeles if you stay on the interstate (which we did.)

  • Good friends can make the difference between a successful move and days of lower back pain. In Dallas, thanks go out to James Wallis, Jamie Stegall, and Sharon Dodge - you guys rock. Similar thanks go out to The Family in California - you guys know who you are :).

  • Apparently, my daughters had a grand time while their mother and I missed them like the dickens while we were driving the U-Haul out to California. Upon returning to them, they looked at us, said our names ("Mommy! Daddy!") and then went back to playing with their toys. Here I was, worried about having done some sort of psychological damage to them, engendering feelings of abandonment that I would no doubt have to deal with by paying very high therapist bills at a much later date and they were of the mindset of "Oh, You're back. Good to see you. Must go play with blocks now, we'll talk later."

  • I meant to do audioblog entries while on the trip, but for some reason, Audioblogger won't let me log on. Oh well, no big thing. Besides, I was so tired at the end of each day that any audio entry that I made would have been mostly mumbling about how tired I was and how Olivia and I were going to go get something to eat.

The slightly bad news is that we weren't able to get all of our stuff in the U-Haul. We got about 90% of our belongings stuffed into the truck and then noticed that we still had more to load. So, we were going to get a hitch on the van and rent a trailer from U-Haul until we found out that it was actually cheaper to simply rent a smaller truck, so this ain't over yet, folks. In two days time from this writing, I will be behind the wheel of another U-Haul, while my bride and the best 2-year old twins in the world will follow in our minivan.

We should be in California some time on Friday. Saint Christopher and anyone else out there reading this, pray for us:)

    En route to Cali,
    ~Rob
