Been a while since I posted to the ol' blog, so here goes! Actually, a few interesting developments to speak of: I met with the head of a pre-press and advertising company about a week ago, having been introduced by a associate from church (yes, I actually am going to church regularly. Who'd have thought - me, Mr. Irreverent?). It was primarily a networking meeting, establishing contacts and all that. It was nice to take my portfolio in and be taken seriously - I'm not used to that. The lady I met with told me she'd put me in touch with a few people, but so far I haven't heard back from her. If I haven't heard from her by Thursday, I'll call and remind her. Squeaky wheel gets the grease and all that.
I also found out about a job opening (actually, a job hiring fair) at a new resort near to my house called The Gaylord Texan. It's being built by the same company that owns Gaylord Opryland. Due to start on the 21st, they'l be hiring for almost all "front of house" positions. FYI, "front of house" means all the people you see when you check into a hotel or eat at a restaurant. "Back of house" means people like engineers, cooks, office staff, etc. I figure, with 13 years experience in hospitality management, I would be a fool not to take advantage of anything that earns me more money while I get the cartooning going on the side. I would really love a back of house job, though - I'm tired of putting on a fake smile every day and calling 16 year old kids "sir". That, and I just like to be working in a nice, quiet office with clearly delineated goals each day. I'm funny that way :)
Other than that, not much else going on. Gotta go, got to go sling books to the masses!
