I know that I said that I was going to have some potential good news the Monday after the last post. However, said potential good news never actually materialized. Not quite, anyway.
You see, what happened was I had received a call back for a second job interview with a large hotel chain for a position as an office services clerk, a position that would be at the bottom rung of the corporate ladder, but would allow me to climb said ladder. The first interview went very well, and I thought I had nailed it. Then there was ... nothing. So, the next week, I sent a second e-mail to the human resources manager that had interviewed me and I reaffirmed my interest in the position.
The next day, I received a call asking me to come in on that Friday.
When I arrived for my interview, I was told that there was a change of venue, and that I was to proceed towards one of their properties where their vice-president in charge of human resources would interview me.
I had a very enjoyable conversation with the lady, but I was told by her that if I wanted growth opportunities, that the growth opportunities existed more on the properties than in the corporate office. She then sent me to another hotel to speak to their hiring manager, who had two positions available: one as a concierge/bellperson making $6 an hour plus tips; and another one as a desk agent, making $9 per hour. Needless to say, I did not take either position.
What is really frustrating is that I thought that I had done very well in both of these interviews. I had poured on the Chambers charm, which I can turn on when I really need to (hey, I landed my wife with it--just kiddin', hon), and had got along very well with the two people that I interviewed with on the first round of interviews. I just don't quite understand what happened.
In far more positive news, I am now an uncle again! My sister and her husband had their little girl last Monday--at least, I think it was last Monday. I'll have to check with my wife on that, as she keeps the other half of my brain.:)
My niece's name is Olivia Marie. I received several pictures via e-mail of my niece, and she is a little cutie, with her mommy's nose, and her daddy's eyes.
As I said in the previous post, some of my new illustration work is up on my friend Shanna's website. Apparently, her book is doing very well, and she has received a number of compliments regarding my illustrations on her website. Hopefully, this will result in some freelance work for me.
If not, I've helped a friend out, so it's a win-win situation.
One final bit of news: My little girls will turn one year old this Saturday! I am looking forward to the party on Saturday because, among other things, my parents to be flying into town, whom I have not seen since shortly after the girls were born.
A shout out goes to Amy A. for the advice - as you've probably guessed, I suck at returing emails. Anyway, thanks for that thing what you told me about that one time, you know what I'm talking about ;).
That ought to do it for me.
Talk to you all later,
~Rob
