Ch-ch-changes...
Roughly 4 years ago, my bride and I moved to Dallas from Los Angeles, intent upon building a new life in the Lone Star State. Over time, that fresh start resulted in 2 adorable little daughters and 3 address changes, along with new friends and new experiences.
However, it's time for a change.
My wife ("Olivia") and I will be moving back to Southern California in mid-June. This is a decision that we made back in September, but I am only talking about it in this blog now out of respect for my wife, who did not want news of our impending relocation to somehow make its way to the ears of one of her coworkers prematurely. I was going to make an announcement earlier this month, but thought that it might have been taken as an April Fool's joke. No joke, folks. We're heading back to the land of swimming pools and movie stars. We actually wanted to leave in March, but it turned out that we had signed a 15 month lease; neither of us had seen that when we signed the papers, assuming that it was a standard 12 month lease. Thus we are stuck in our condo from Heck (not Hell, but almost as bad) until June. Waiting this long for our lives to essentially start over has been like Chinese water torture, only less fun.
Why the big move? Primarily, we want to live closer to our extended family members. We want to be close to family on a near-daily basis (which will be possible - keep reading) and to enable our girls to grow up with their cousins, which is something neither Olivia nor I ever had and we both always envied that opportunity. As much as I love my in-laws and they us, they live in a little town about an hour and a half drive from Dallas. My brother-in-law (who I'll call "Chuck" unless he writes me later and asks for a cooler nom de plume) and his wife and their little boy live in Seguin, Texas, which is a rural town somewhat near San Antonio; another significant drive from us. We're not going to move near either of them, and neither of them are moving anytime soon. However, the entire Chambers side of my family lives within a 10 - 15 minute drive of each other - and that's with traffic.
Olivia and I see this move as a true fresh start for us, in more ways than one. We are going to be residing with my parents for 6 months to a year so that we can pay off some bills and save up for a house. One of my sisters works in real estate, so we should be getting some inside help with finding said house. Also, it will afford Olivia and I the ability to explore different career options, which we both feel we need.
So that's where we stand at the moment. Mid-June we will be moving to California and this website will be moving to a different hosting provider, since we'll be canceling Earthlink and that's who currently hosts my blog. More details on that to follow.
Wish us luck, folks.:)
Take care,
~Rob
