Hi Everybody,
Well, as I'm sure you've assumed by now, we made it out to California alive and relatively sane. The girls are getting bigger and Olivia and I have been hunting like the dickens for jobs - yes, we came out here without employment in hand, which does smack of being a bit impulsive and whatnot, but this was a move we had to make.
Emma and Nicki have been getting plenty of Vitamin D with all of the sunlight and exercise they've been getting. Grandma and Grandpa have bought them a swing set and slide, which they absolutely love, and they have two pink plastic horses with wheels on them that they delight in lifting up off the ground and carrying around, which usually earns them a "Wow, you're really strong, Emma/Nicki!" comment from me.
The job hunt has been daunting and I have had some intermittent temp work, but nothing to write home about. I have gotten some work from a small local magazine doing ad layout, but that's about it and I don't know how permanent that is, either.
I know it sounds kind of spoiled and/or New Age-y to say this, but I want a job that I at least like. I don't have to love it, but I need to like it and so far I don't see this happening.
When I was in high school, my guidance counselor told me to take up welding, not knowing what to do with some kid who wanted to be a cartoonist. I'm getting to the point where I almost wish I had taken his advice. Shoot, maybe I should be a guidance counselor? From what I've seen, I don't think it requires much in the way of qualifications.
If there's anyone out there willing to pray for us, please do. We can use all the help we can get.
Take care,
~Rob
